DNSSEC stands for the "Domain Name System Security Extensions", and is a security mechanism for validating DNS replies. The purpose of DNSSEC is to introduce mechanisms that secure the DNS system to make it relatively impossible to inject false answers into resolver DNS lookups, unfortunately without using DNSSEC it is possible to reply with false answers to unsuspecting and unaware users.
Most top level registries have already implemented DNSSEC support.
